Due to Covid-19, My final year has been very limited on the amount of face to face meetings and exploration of inspiring and creative places. Although I have been limited this hasn’t stopped me from interacting with the industry on a personal level through guest lectures on teams, to live project meetings. Inspired by the designers I have talked to and the projects I have completed, my work has been improved and I have gained more and more experience. Though creating concepts that speak for themselves and using graphics to relay the message I want to get across, instead of relying on heavy text and clunky imagery, which my concepts use to be like.

My career path has been affected by my experience over the past few months but hasn’t swayed my choice of career but made me more open to new experiences. Speaking to the designers and their past, from leaving university to where they are today, has made me more confident in using the skills I have learnt to advance through the industry. After leaving university, I want to put my skills and knowledge to use instead of waiting till an opportunity arises. Due to Covid-19 this will be a struggle due to the economy and how many businesses have collapsed. This is an important time for me, as I need to get into the industry as soon as possible, in order to gain more knowledge.

I set out this blog with a certain aim, to become a CAD/sustainable designer. Responding to this, I feel that my aims have changed as a result of covid-19, and my resourcefulness has increased due to limitations. Instead of looking to the future and achieving a job within my goals, I would rather take this time to gain more knowledge and experience within the industry. I feel that learning new things and gaining more knowledge will give me a better advantage than jumping straight into my dream job. Thought this year I have been able to create a portfolio that best reflects me and has been useful in getting job interviews. It shows that I am an advanced CAD designer and reflects how I work. I feel that I set out to achieve this and in doing so, I feel that I have accomplished all I set out to do.

My plan for after I graduate is to add my completed major project to my portfolio that will hopefully allow me to gain a job in sustainability or the start of my own business idea. I will be applying for any design role within the industry to stat with so that I can gain the experience needed to achieve my goal. I feel that I have a clear path for my future within design which will allow me to stay motivated and achieve this.
